"A Very Merry Un-Birthday"
Original Art
8" x 10"
Oil, stain, acrylic on cradled wood panel
Artist’s Reflection:
“This past year was tough. It was one blow after another. Accidents, identity theft, corruption, medical bills, unkind people and just what some might call bad luck. We were forced to sell everything we own, including the home we had just built.
We were broke as a joke. But it wasn’t funny.
Late on utility bills, collections chasing us, having to say no (multiple times) when our toddlers would ask for even a box of crackers at the supermarket. Often, not eating myself so they could.
I turned 40 this year, luckily some friends took us in and offered me a home cooked meal, if it wasn’t for them there’d be no celebration at all. … Just like we didn’t celebrate Christmas or Thanksgiving or our anniversary or my husband’s birthday. There were no gifts for our son’s birthday either. No Easter egg hunt. No gifts, no lavish spreads. It just wasn’t in the books.
If you’ve gotten this far (and you know me #silverliningchaser), you know there is also a “BUT” here.
… BUT we learned what’s really important in life. Family. Friends. Health.
… BUT we learned to live with less and still be happy. Now we are more grateful for all we do have.
… BUT we learned to accept and ask for help. We were both so proud before. Too proud. We learned everyone has ups and downs and you can both be the people that give back AND those who receive when needed.
… BUT life comes in seasons and lucky for us things have turned around. We weathered the storm and are better off for it.
Annnd I also learned a theory that Birthdays are actually a ritual that seals your fate to grow older and sacrifice your youth. So I guess I saved myself from aging this year!”
A piece of original art adds an eye-catching accent, some colour, and a bit of texture to a gallery wall, niche, or corner of your home.
This 8" x 10" painting is finished with a coat of protective varnish and arrives ready to hang straight out of the box. Or, consider a custom Belizean hardwood floating frame for an elevated look. Just add one to your order!
