"Sugar Plum Fairies"
Original Art
16” x 20”
Oil on natural canvas
2024
Artist’s Reflection:
“One year in primary school, our entire school put on a production of the Christmas classic, the Nutcracker.
I was 7 or 8 then, and like every little girl, I wanted to be part of the Sugar Plum Fairy scene. There were auditions, and I was so hopeful I would get one of the coveted spots.
I did not.
I ended up as a Tea Dancer in a Chinese-inspired scene where we wore teacups with saucers affixed to the top of our heads via cheap, itchy elastics strapped under our chins. I was not pleased, to say the least.
During the first show, as our parents and families watched, I danced around with my plastic cup balanced upon my head. When we reached the choreographed bow, my tea cup flew forward, blocking my face. Not wanting to miss any of the steps I had practiced so hard, I left it there and continued the show with cup-on-face.
Needless to say, it was a hilarious hit, and nobody cared about the pretty over-sparkled Sugar Plums after all.”
A piece of original art adds an eye-catching accent, some colour, and a bit of texture to a gallery wall, niche, or corner of your home.
This 16” x 20” painting is finished with a coat of protective varnish and arrives ready to hang straight from the box. Or, consider a custom Belizean hardwood floating frame for an elevated look. Just add one to your order!
